My question is what does this mean for MilkyWay@home? The data for this project is from the Sloan DSS, Gaia is from the Gaia spaced based telescope. First is it a good understanding that these projects are doing the same thing (mapping the stars in our galaxy?) Second, the Gaia data is both newer and more accurate? Third, is there still a need for the map created by MilkyWay@home? If there is a need for MilkyWay@home what is that, where does it help that the Gaia data doesn't? Either way, it is exciting that these advances just keep rolling in and for now I will continue to contribute to this project. Any wise one have some insight into these questions? Thanks, Robin |
