P.S. my nightmare about this is that if/when the transitioner does try to progress those work units there is a sudden huge surge in the number of available N-body tasks again!I have no problem in allocating all 96 cores to Nbody. We'll use them up. |

You cheeky monkey! I have three 24 core machines, one 6 core, and three 4 cores, plus a 4 and 2 core phone. I have 6 DP cards for here and two SP cards for other projects.P.S. my nightmare about this is that if/when the transitioner does try to progress those work units there is a sudden huge surge in the number of available N-body tasks again! Power consumption about 3kW. My credit here is over half yours! I do a lot of projects. |

P.S. my nightmare about this is that if/when the transitioner does try to progress those work units there is a sudden huge surge in the number of available N-body tasks again! ROTFL!! NO NO NO I was asking because I was wondering if you were spreading yourself across other projects too or just focusing here, right now I'm mostly focusing but as or right now only have 1/4 to 1/3 of all my machines up and running. And if you really want to do a p?ss?ng match look at my signature!!! I've been doing Boinc since the mid 1980's!!! For me though credits are meaningless except to see how a pc is doing today versus yesterday or a month from now, BUT I am pretty proud of being #4 in the World!!! ![]() |

@mikey: ... just wondering, if that is your personal signature (I mean credits) or your teams combined credits ? |

@mikey:I was gonna poke fun at him for collecting badges, but when I was a kid I collected leaflets. We should never stop being kids. Adults are boring. |

and too serious!@mikey: Yup that's what I do get badges and then in the case of wuprop, Prime Grid and others make them different colors etc. |

<Homer Simpson>Mmmm pretty colours.....</Homer Simpson>and too serious!@mikey: I have a graph. Yeah, weird I know. My position in each project over the last year. I often use it to decide what to have a go at. I've just put everything on Einstein for a day (sorry Tom). I do like steep sloping lines showing I've passed 100s of people. I get like that in running races. I don't care how fast I ran, I care how many people I beat. The only thing better than a steep slope is a hyperbolic curve. These can be seen in nature on things I'd get banned for mentioning. |

@mikey: That's what 40 years of crunching will do for you!! Of course a few asic miners along the way didn't hurt the numbers either!! |

<Homer Simpson>Mmmm pretty colours.....</Homer Simpson>and too serious!@mikey: Except for that last part that's what the project wuprop tracks, the hours you put into each project not the credits you get for each task. For instance my top 5 projects in wuprop hours are: 1 NumberFields@home Get Decic Fields 377,899.28 2 TN-Grid Platform gene@home PC-IM 259,560.47 3 Distributed Hardware Evolution Project Distributed Hardware Evolution Island 184,388.25 4 World Community Grid Microbiome Immunity Project 162,891.82 5 Acoustics@home SSPEMDD 159,820.87 YES those are the cpu core or the gpu hours spent at each of those project, my list is 218 apps long with the very last one being one no longer available: 218 Enigma@Home Enigma Cuda 0.02. If you put 5 cpu cores on a project for a day you would get roughly 5 times 24 hours or 120 hours more or less, because there is non crunching time with each app it's not perfectly linear and obviously some apps are much better than others. The same thing with a gpu but they do NOT count cores just the whole gpu itself as one. As for credits I have a bit over 12 million on all of Number Fields, a bit over 10 million credits at TN-Grid, almost 76.5 million credits at the Distributed Hardware Evolution Project, 30.75 million credits at World Community Grid and just over 5 million credits at Acoustics, while I have almost 3.5 million credits at Enigma@home. You can see that credits are not a representation of how many hours you put in at a given project. Here at MilkyWay I have a bit over 62 million hours and almost 500 million credits. |

I quote a neighbour with a very strong Scottish accent and a very squeaky voice who objected to the speed I was operating my motor vehicle: "Forrrty forrr goodness sayyyke!" Did Boinc exist 40 years ago? I had its predecessor United Devices running in the late 90s.@mikey: You got ASIC to do Boinc? I thought they were specifically designed for coins? |

Except for that last part that's what the project wuprop tracks, the hours you put into each project not the credits you get for each task. For instance my top 5 projects in wuprop hours are:What are Distributed Hardware Evolution Project and Acoustics@home? One doesn't respond and the other makes a lot of warnings in my browser like someone took over the site and made it nasty. Credits are a better guide than hours. Why should you get the same with a 10 year old CPU than I get with a brand new one doing more good? |

For instance my top 5 projects in wuprop hours are: Distributed Hardware Evolution Project is no longer accepting new users or even some older ones like me that haven't crunched there in a long time Acoustics is no longer in existence. Credits are a better guide than hours. Why should you get the same with a 10 year old CPU than I get with a brand new one doing more good? Credits are based on different things at most projects, some have fixed credits some have credits based on some algorithm or other and some use "Credit New" like Seti did and is the default in the Boinc Server software. Yes generally speaking a newer cpu being faster should earn more credits than an older cpu but being able to put ALOT of cpu cores on one project can offset that advantage someone else might have. ie you said you have 96 cpu cores here at MilkyWay, if someone were to put 200, or more, older cpu cores here than your advantage would be mitigated in a head to head competition. |

It was a Boinc Project called Bitcoin Utopia and the idea was to crunch using cpu's, gpu's and or asic miners to generate money to donate to things like someone wrote a book on how to populate Mars, another time we sent money to some of the stats sites, one time we even helped fund another Boinc Project. But like alot of Boinc Projects over the years it's not gone by the wayside, you have to remember back when Bitcoins weren't were more than a dollar or so each so it took awhile to send some $1500US. |

The reason a bunch of older tasks don't validate is because their second task got cancelled, but no new task is being generated for it, it seems. One of my own tasks to show the second task having been cancelled: https://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/workunit.php?wuid=411722482 |

How much good you have done for the project. Someone with newer faster cores, or someone with more cores, deserves to get more credits. And if you use Gridcoin, credits mean more than bragging rights. Which is why Gridcoin bans projects that can't control their credits, like LHC. |
