Just put my $4k beast on the program after an eight year break. Glad to see my account was still here. Disappointed to find SETI gone, but glad I can help here. Will bring online a second lessor capable PC once I figure out a video driver issue. Twin GPUS, etc. These twin systems should really push us along. In a few hours, I have already blown by the lifetime of crunching of my older PCs. What a difference the years have made in power! Hope you all are doing well. I retired from active duty in 2013 and are working hard at other endeavors. |

Finally broke a RAC of One Million between my two dedicated PCs. MJOLNIR is a rebuild of 2014 computer parts that has tripled my expectations for having dual GPUs at a RAC of 727,367.36. STORMBREAKER is a new 2022 top of the line COTS PC with the best GPU out there at a RAC of 273,372.60. So, who know what parts you have lying around that could be put to use with a little tweaking? Deffinently looking into adding a second GPU if plausible. MJOLNIR was self-throttling due to temperature and no internal cooling could keep up. Thus, I took off the access panel and pointed an industrial floor-drying fan on the CPU heat sink and pipes with a clip-on desk fan blowing over the bottom GPU. On the exhaust side I have a 24" size cyclone fan pulling heat away from the housing and shooting it out the office door. Room stays between 81F and 88F and the PC components are running 30-50F cooler. I spent years running projects for BOINC and had to cut back over the past few years for economic reasons. Glad I can help out again and will pull as hard as I can to make up for the years of little support. Right now, we are the #1 Government team in RAC, beating NASA and the Army and #16 overall. I think we can get to 13th place or so before we need more firepower. In any event, science is winning! |
