Does anyone have a working answer to this problem ? If so, I would love to hear it.

Wait until Monday when the IT people show up to fix the problem on the Server end

Message 76564 - Posted: 5 Nov 2023, 10:37:10 UTC - in response to Message 76556.

opeSuse Linux Tumbleweed
bpinc 7.24.1 x64
I deleted the milkyway project and changed the url to add -new, i also did an update-ca-certificates
but I still can not add the project. in each case i shutdown boinc and restarted it - nothing fixed the issue for me
Someone mentioned adding 2 certs but, where do they go and what name do i give them?
Is it going to fix this?

[---] Fetching configuration file from https://milkyway-new.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/get_project_config.php
[---] Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site
[---] Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down.

The problem is on the Server side and until they fix it there's nothing that can be done, the IT people will show up on Monday

Yes I did
sudo update-ca-certificates
yields no updates

The client, in fact, all of Boinc, is installed by the package manager. Latest version. I even reinstalled it.

The certificate is screwed up on their end not ours so updating our certificates won't fix the problem, the IT guys will be back at work on Monday

Thanks Nick, but I'm really not sure how to add that certificate info. I guess I'll have to wait until they fix it at the server.

The certificate issue seems to be resolved now -- I was able to get MW up and running again on my Linux systems from around 15:45 UTC on 2023-11-06.

Thank you Kevin and the RPI techs.

Cheers - Al.

Solved.
Now I just miss the connections to the statistic webpages: BOINCstats and Free-DC.

How do I even remove the project? In the BOINC client under the projects tab the remove button is greyed out for me for this project?

Did you select the MilkyWay Project on the list first?

A 2nd question is why would you? If you are done crunching just set it to no new tasks and then suspend it as well, no communications between your Boinc and the Project will happen again until you unsuspend the Project. The Admin said that changing because of the "-new" address is not needed because they are linking to both the site with the "-new" as well as the site witout the "-new".

I am afraid that I don’t have nowhere near the skills that I need. My computers are finishing up work under the “old” server. What exactly do I do? Rejoin? Do nothing? Not sure how to proceed. All of my machines are windows based. Pleas give it to me step by step! Thanks. Angie

Depending on which Boinc view you use, Basic or Advanced, make sure Milkyway is the selected project.
Under Project commands Delete the project and through the Tools/Add Project process or Add Project button, re add Milkyway.
Since you're logged in here, I imagine you know your email and password to use.

I tried resetting the project with my Windows machine and it wasn't enough.

1. Yes, I have the project selected

2. I thought earlier they asked to remove and re-add the project? I missed the other message. In the BOINC client it still says "Milkyway@home: Notice from BOINC
This project seems to have changed its URL. When convenient, remove the project, then add http://milkyway-new.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/"

Yes it does still say that but the Admin said they would continue to use redirection tools to ensure everyone gets to the right place. ESPECIALLY since they are/were having problems logging back on again I would NOT delete anything.

Well, it worked! Went to “simple view”, deleted Milky Way. Then I added it back in. Said that I was an existing user, just like as if I got a new computer. Sure enough, I got 1 task, then a whole bunch of them. So a couple of questions, do I need to do this to all my machines? If so, should I do it now, or wait until they finish up the work units that they have? Thanks everyone for the help. Angie

The master URL of the project has changed. This is almost certainly not what you want. The original URL should point to the new server. Please contact me (David Anderson) to discuss, and/or attend the upcoming BOINC projects call.

No you do not the Admin said that the new url points to the old url and is defining the new server versus the old server and all the internal stuff is setup so no changes are needed.

I don't see anything (official) on website where the correct URL is.

It appears Kevin needs to let Willy @ BAM! know what the correct URL is because it's not pointing to it.

I posted to the thread in the number crunching but apparently that info hasn't been relayed over...
