Message 20708 - Posted: 28 Apr 2009, 7:29:10 UTC - in response to Message 20691.

Just watching the news, it does seem that we are supposed to be in a state of perpetual fear.

  • Pakistan 'Cruicible of Terror' (OMG! OMG!..we're all gonna be killed by terrorists OMG!)
  • Swine flu (OMG! OMG! we're gonna die! We're gonna die!!)
  • Recession (ARRRRGH..we're all gonna lose our jobs and DIE!)
  • Terrorists are going to hack the olympics (OMG! OMG! The computers are gonna DIE!)

Does anyone else get tired of the hysteria?

I gave up TV a long while back, and only do The Metro as a paper and that doesnt have any news in it. I listen to the news on Radio4 and they never speak in block capitals or have mentioned Crucibles of Terror. I probably ended up on Radio4 as an escape from all the type of crud you mentioned.

I usually get my news from Radio 4 as it tends to have more analysis and less hysteria. That was why I was so surprised at the levels of hysteria on the TV news. I think I'll stick with watching back episodes of SG-1 at 6pm! Far more sensible stuff. :D

In Oz we have a similar thing happening.

Recession (well we only just acknowledged we are in one) OMFG! PANIC!

Unemployment -> heading towards 8% OMDFG! PANIC!

Swine Flu -> 150 confirmed dead in Mexico(a great way to divert from the recession talk) PANIC!

Swine Flu -> trying to contact 22 people who were on the same plane as 3 New Zealanders who have come down with the flu! PANIC! It could be the person next to you!

Swine Flu -> airline share prices fall by 20%! PANIC! But then again, pharmceutical share prices are up by 5%!

Richard Pratt (billionaire Aussie) dies -> great way to divert from recession, unemployment & swine flu. Ohhhh. :( PANIC about the state his businesses will be in in 12 months!

Unleaded petrol price drop heading our way (WOOHOO!) due to (recession, unemployemnt, swine flu).

OMFG did someone mention the recession!?!?! Unemployment heading up OMDFG! PANIC!

It's all the governments fault! (but they weren't in power when it all started happening) STFU and PANIC! It's great for our ratings!

Sorry guys.. pPp I have not seen the news in several days. If anything major has
happend, I dont know about it. I live in a free country, and I choose to not
take it all in every day.. So what I see is this;

Again its a wonderful weather. ;-D
I remembered to buy more coffee yesterday, so i have enough ;-)
Ive just got some txt-messages from a friend who had an operation yesterday, He is Fine! ;-)
When finished some hours work, I will plant some flowers ;-)
I have already been laughing several times this morning.
I saw an eagle flying over my house half an hour ago.

Thats it so far. ;-)

See you later......................

Tonight on the News.."Swine Flu hits Devon". Pictures of sobbing children being taken home by their parents as the school is shut down. Poor kids probably think they're doomed thanks to the media. Parents speaking in shock that they never expected this sort of thing to happen in Devon.

Although not all the kids seem upset by the closure of their schools. Gleeful kids were running around behind the reporter..one of them running past waving at the camera wearing a gas mask. :)

Yea I was looking at some stuff the other day. This year 2 million Africans will die from malnutrition, HIV and Malaria but thats quite okay cos they always do. And maybe one of those kids coming home from school will get killed in an RTA, but "these things happen".
But if 2 people die in the UK from a new virus WE'RE ALL DOOMED!!!!??!!?!?!?!!!!

Tonight on the News.."Swine Flu hits Devon".

I couldn't give a ####. I'll be going down to Devon in 10 days to see my dad, and I have every intention of coming back alive. If I unfortunately happen to meet a News Editor during the trip, I hope their personal accident insurance is up to date......

They'll just say it was due to the flu.
