A little thing I found interesting: This guy has built his own farm in a server rack: Using motherboards with 4 PCI-E slots - the result, a rack of 20 GTX295s all for Folding@Home, gaining around 300k PPD (for those who have never folded, it's safe to say 300000 is a lot!) The most popular video on Youtube for it shows it working at full tilt: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KjOW5iW7dJQ&feature=channel There are also a few videos showing how he put it all together: One Two Three Four Just raises the questions: a) How much does that cost?? A GTX 295 in the UK is £400, so 20x = £8k. Then the other stuff, like motherboards, PSU, processors (Phenom X4s he said he uses) adds another £500 per 4 cards. Then the power it uses... b) Could it handle 4x 4870X2s in an ATI crunching feat? c) Would it get Work Units?? (ignore that, just messin' with ya!) d) Anyone here got something they want to show off similar =P For reference, the motherboard used in the end was 4xPCI-E MSI K9A2 Platinum - The Foxconn Destroyer he used didnt cope with more than two GFX (could have been faulty). |

Only if it comes with planty of wu's. Doesn't expecting the unexpected make the unexpected the expected? If it makes sense, DON'T do it. |
