Welcome to MilkyWay@home

Your personal background.
First of all, I am not an Irish druid. Live in the United States (well, sort of united). However, I do have Irish ancestry. One never knows when we are arguing with a passion, confessing our sins, entertaining you, or just pulling your leg. Id we get into a serious conflict, we take it to the attitude adjustment room (an Irish Pub). We never solve anything there, but we soon forget why we came there in the first place.

Married since 1960 to my only wife and best friend. Father of four, grandfather of seven (not counting spouses) and great grandfather of ten.

Veteran U.S. Air Force Reserves 12 years with 37 months active duty during the Vietnam conflict. Life member of American Legion and Air Force Association. Eagle Scout, longtime Scouter, OA Vigil with Boy Scouts of America.

Involved professionally in the computer industry since its inception. Started in tabulating equipment, then programmed mainframe computers for both scientific and commercial projects. Hold engineering degrees, a master of business administration and master of computer science. Also am a system builder of servers, PCs and notebooks as President of my own small business. Also network architect, network installer and IT consultant.
Your opinions about MilkyWay@home
RE 1. I run MilkyWay@home to make a contribution to science. It also gives my lab machines something useful to do.
RE 2. This is serious research that might provide breakthrough insight and discovery of dark matter. It also inspires new mathematical advances that could lead to discoveries that the rest of the world community could use.
RE 3. Beware of workable truth. It may be true enough to use for current projects, but the attitude stifles innovation. Avoid becoming an absolute expert in almost nothing. Pace yourself and broaden focus on non-computer pursuits to provide mental and emotional balance in your life. Never let a computer become your best friend. It may soon become your only friend. Sleep deprivation is destructive to mental health.
